• Physical and Mental Health Vulnerabilities: High exposure to violence, accidents, and stress leads to elevated rates of fatalities, assaults, PTSD, and suicide (2-4 times higher than general population).
• Burnout and Sleep Deprivation: Long shifts cause short fuses, short-term energy loss, and impaired judgment, increasing risks of errors or overexertion.
• Training and Oversight Gaps: Inadequate preparation for dangers like communicable diseases or underreporting of incidents heightens health risks.
• Societal and Operational Stress: Isolation, abuse, and unpredictable nature lead to cardiovascular issues and higher homicide rates.
• Systemic Complacency: Rhetoric of increasing danger despite safer trends can lead to over-caution or errors.
